Responsibilities
Support Classroom Instruction:
- Assist the teacher in delivering lessons and maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment.
- Provide targeted support to individual or small groups of students, ensuring their understanding of the lesson content.
- Collaborate with the teacher to develop and adapt teaching materials to meet students' needs.
Behaviour and Emotional Support:
- Implement behaviour management strategies to promote positive choices and appropriate conduct in students.
- Support students in developing emotional resilience and self-regulation skills.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with students to cultivate a supportive and nurturing environment.
Individualised Student Support:
- Identify academic and social-emotional needs of students and develop individualised intervention plans.
- Provide additional support to students with learning difficulties or disabilities, ensuring their access to the curriculum.
- Monitor and track student progress, offering feedback, encouragement, and praise to promote growth.
Collaborative Work:
- Collaborate effectively with the teaching staff and other professionals involved in the students' care, such as therapists or social workers.
- Contribute to planning and team meetings, providing insights on student progress and suggesting strategies for improvement.
- Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians to update them on student performance and address any concerns.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure the physical safety and well-being of students during school hours, including supervision during breaks and outings.
- Administer first aid and follow appropriate protocols in emergency situations.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent. Higher education qualifications in relevant fields (e.g., education, psychology) are desirable.
- Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational or support role is advantageous.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of different learning styles and strategies to support students with diverse needs.
- Ability to effectively manage behaviour and de-escalate challenging situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
- Proficiency in appropriate IT tools and technology used for educational purposes.
Empathy and Resilience:
- Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding towards students facing individual challenges.
- Resilience to deal with difficult and potentially confrontational situations in a calm and composed manner.
- Willingness to constantly adapt and learn in response to the students' evolving needs.
Organisation and Flexibility:
- Effective time-management skills to coordinate and prioritise multiple tasks.
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate changing circumstances and unexpected challenges.
Safeguarding and Confidentiality:
- Strict adherence to safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the welfare and safety of students.
- Respect for confidentiality when handling sensitive information related to students and families.
