Independent School STEM Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate STEM Teacher to join our team at a small, independent school for students with special educational needs. As a teacher joining our Independent School you will be responsible for creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for students. We support students with a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD and SEMH challenges. You will play a crucial role in helping students achieve their academic and personal goals providing them with the necessary support and guidance to thrive.

This full-time role runs Monday to Friday and offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in a nurturing setting, with class sizes no larger than seven students.

The role has the potential to start immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, innovative and inspirational lessons to students in accordance with the curriculum guidelines.
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet the diverse needs of students, taking into consideration their individual abilities and backgrounds and SEND barriers.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes positive behaviour and student well-being.
  • Establish clear learning objectives and assess student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to address challenging behaviours and promote positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop individualised learning plans and interventions for students with additional needs.
  • Stay up-to-date with current educational practices and research, incorporating innovative teaching strategies and tools into the classroom.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, achievement, and behaviour, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and external professionals to ensure a holistic and collaborative approach to student support.
  • Attend training sessions, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or relevant subject area. A postgraduate qualification in education would be advantageous.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
  • Knowledge and experience of teaching a STEM subject is essential.
  • Previous experience working with students in special education settings is desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of the curriculum requirements and ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons in line with the national standards.
  • Strong understanding of different learning needs and strategies to support students with diverse abilities and backgrounds.
  • Effective behaviour management skills and ability to establish rapport with students who may have experienced difficulties in mainstream education.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to cultivate positive relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual student needs.
  • Organisational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate records and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for creating positive educational experiences for all students.
