Independent School Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a small, independent school for students with special educational needs. This full-time role runs Monday to Friday and offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in a nurturing setting, with class sizes no larger than seven students.

Our provision supports students with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD and social, emotional and mental health challenges. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to provide consistent, individualised support that helps students thrive both academically and emotionally.

You will need a calm, flexible and patient approach, with the ability to adapt to change and remain professional under pressure. Excellent communication is essential, as the role involves working closely with teachers, parents and external professionals to ensure students’ needs are met.

Key responsibilities include assisting in lessons, supporting emotional regulation, completing daily paperwork, updating behaviour and progress trackers, and maintaining accurate logs. You will also be expected to liaise with parents and other schools or agencies when required, helping to build strong, supportive relationships around each student.

Experience working with SEN students is desirable, but we welcome applicants who are eager to learn and committed to inclusive education. This role suits someone who values teamwork, consistency and making a real difference every day.

To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter detailing your suitability for the role to admin@journeyeducationgroup.co.uk. School visits are warmly welcomed and encouraged.
